Animal disease diagnosis can be problematic. Symptoms are sometimes difficult to elicit and, of course, it is not possible to take a direct history. BioSure rapid tests provide vets, farmers and pet owners with an efficient method of screening for common diseases.
For example, the most significant issue in animal health in the UK is bovine tuberculosis (bTb). This disease is endemic in some parts of the UK beef and dairy herd and the disease continues to spread and to test the will power of governments across the political spectrum. It is envisaged that the management of this disease will cost the UK taxpayer £1bn over the next 10 years, ignoring the loss of economic activity that has resulted from lack of confidence of UK farmers in the longevity of their own herds. It is unarguable that the spread of bovine TB has been aided by the current screening test’s inability to consistently identify diseased cattle. It is suggested that the current immune response test is only capable of correctly identifying 1 in 2 diseased animals. Epidemiological modelling studies have shown that if this were raised to even 75%, eradication of the disease would become a realistic prospect. BioSure Bovine TB rapid tests have been shown to have a true positive detection rate of at least 85%.
