BioSURE COVID-19 Self Test FAQ’s
Here are some of the frequently asked questions about BioSURE’s development of the BioSURE COVID19 Self-Test for Coronavirus antibodies.
What is COVID-19?
COVID19 is a novel strain of coronavirus that was caused by SARS-CoV-2. The infectious disease that originated in Wuhan City, China has now spread to other countries and regions and is posing as a serious health pandemic.
What will the BioSURE COVID19 self-test will look like?
The BioSURE COVID19 Self-Test will be based upon our pre-existing HIV self-test that has been proven to be highly accurate and reliable since its launch in 2015. The test itself will look very similar to the BioSURE HIV self-test kit from the device design to the components inside, with the exception of the test strip that will differ to detect antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 rather than antibodies to HIV.
What does it test for?
The BioSURE COVID19 self-test will look for IgG antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. IgG antibodies will be able to tell the end user whether they have been previously infected with COVID-19.
How you would use the test?
The BioSURE COVID19 Self-Test will be an antibody test that will use technology that is very similar to that of a pregnancy test. The test will detect the presence of IgG antibodies to the COVID19 virus, not COVID-19 itself. Like our HIV Self-Test, the COVID19 Self-Test will require only a minuscule amount of blood (smaller than a drop) which your test will pick up automatically, meaning you don’t have to measure anything or mess around with chemicals.
The BioSURE COVID19 Self-Test will be as easy as 3 simple steps. Prick, Suck and Poke. Your own result in 15 minutes, within the privacy and safety of your own home.
BioSURE is a UK based company that has over 5 years of extensive research and performance data for HIV self-testing. The BioSURE HIV self-test was launched in 2015 and was the first HIV self-test to use blood.
